International Road Transport Union
represent the interests of the sector of goods hauliers operating for hire and reward as well as own account;
contribute to the facilitation of road goods transport by eliminating daily barriers;
contribute to the sustainable development of the transport of goods by road;
support the harmonisation of conditions of competition and the creation
of a trans-Continental market for road goods transport services;
promote the development of road infrastructure networks and corridors.
Working Progamme 2004:
defending the position of goods transport regarding EU and governmental
policies in particular with respect to fiscal matters, social and
technical harmonisation;
offering various forms of international dialogue contributing to improved integration of road goods transport markets;
proposing measures for the improvement of enforcing international
conventions; contributing to efforts to reduce waiting times at borders,
harmonise traffic bans, ease conditions of issuing visa to drivers,
enhance security and safety of goods transport by road;
reviewing developments in customs transit systems, the TIR in particular;
supporting regional co-operation, in the enlarged EU, the CIS, the Black
Sea Economic Co-operation, south-east Europe; the Middle East, Central
Asia, the Far East, North Africa, North America and other Continents;
contributing to a better image of the sector
